Whereas a no contest plea only means that the defendant gives up the right to contest the charges against him or her.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are the specifics of a NOLT offer?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a NOLT offer, the prosecution will not oppose the defense sentencing alternatives for a defendant to be placed on probation for up to five years and\/or be ordered to pay fines and restitution instead of serving time in jail.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who ultimately approves the NOLT offer?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The sentencing judge is responsible for making the final determinations on a NOLT offer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What types of crimes are not eligible for a NOLT offer?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Serious felony offenses, felony offenses involving deadly weapons, and violent sex crimes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What must be known before a defendant agrees to accept a NOLT offer?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A NOLT offer will not prevent a conviction; either a guilty plea or a no contest plea will result as a conviction on the defendant\u2019s record.
